Texas Homeowner Acquitted of Killing Teenager

I ran across this story today and had to shake my head. We have a whole bundle of idiots in this story.

A jury of eight men and four women three hours Friday to find Jose Luis Gonzalez not guilty of murdering Francisco Anguiano, who was 13 when he and three friends broke into Gonzalez's trailer to rummage for snacks and soda one night in July 2007.

Well you say, there were 4 young men against this this guys who is 63 years old.

Let us look at some facts:
  1. Gonzalez was not even in the trailer when the boys broke-in, he was in a nearby building.
  2. The boys ranged in age from 11 to 15
  3. Gonzalez, who had been the victim of break-ins before, went to the trailer with a 16-gauge shotgun.
  4. He caught the boys, who were unarmed, and ordered them to their knees.
  5. At this point, according to the boys, they were begging for forgiveness when Gonzalez hit them with the barrel of the shotgun and kicked them repeatedly.
  6. The medical examiner testified Anguiano was shot in the back at close range.
  7. Gonzalez said he thought Anguiano was lunging at him when he fired the shotgun.

Now I am all for gun rights and the right of an homeowner to defend their family and property. If you break into my home while my family and I are there, you will "meet my little friend". That's right, I will do everything in my power to make sure you never see another day. Now if my family and I are next door at the neighbors and some idiot breaks in........It's called 9-1-1.

Assistant District Attorney Uriel Druker stated, "What really took place here was a case of vigilantism. A 13-year-old boy was killed because a man was enraged."

The entire case has caused an outrage in this border town. Why? They believe that Gonzalez should have never been charged. That is right. They felt he should have never been charged with murder. Many people in Laredo, where drug violence runs rampant, defended Gonzalez's actions. In responses to online articles published by the Morning Times, comments included statements such as "The kid got what he deserved" and calls to "stop the unfair prosecution."

I now refer you to the post below this one.

By the way, what did the kid die for? Two mashed Twinkies and some cookies were stuffed in the pockets of his shorts.
